ASE has delivered IT Strategies across a diverse range of clients including the Department of Health and the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. We recognise that every organisation’s needs are different, so our methodological and proven approach to strategy definition is tailorable to meet each organisation’s specific needs. Effective and on-going stakeholder identification, engagement and communications are critical to establishing and shaping the approach through prioritising the key inputs – business drivers, aspirations, challenges and concerns – whilst determining the most appropriate outputs to enable implementation and realisation of the strategy.
On a number of occasions we have found that incorporating an element of high-level enterprise architecture (EA) provides a powerful way of supporting the development of an IT strategy, so we have developed a 5 stage IT Strategy approach. This delivers a light-touch architecture and a corresponding set of client-specific IT principles, which together support the development of an IT strategy blueprint, costed options appraisal and implementation roadmap. The artefacts developed as part of the architecture phase enable a clear understanding of the health of the client’s existing IT landscape, whilst identifying and mapping out the future state. The approach is highly-configurable so it can be tailored to the client’s needs. The enterprise architecture should not exist in isolation from an organisation’s business and technical work streams.
There are many opportunities to bring the benefits of EA together with other key work initiatives and this IT strategy approach provides one great example of this. Of course, such an approach might not be the most suitable for every organisation’s IT strategy needs, particularly where a robust enterprise architecture already exists. Whatever the case, ASE’s extensive experience, pragmatism and eye for detail will ensure that an IT strategy can be developed to meet any new or existing client’s needs.Share:
